Reaching Vancouver Island

Traveling to Strathcona Provincial Park

The park is situated about a four-hour drive from Victoria, British Columbia's capital, and approximately six hours from Vancouver. Several smaller towns near the park provide alternative access points.

Starting the Hike to Della Falls

Upon reaching Strathcona Provincial Park, head to the Della Falls trailhead. The trail, a moderate six-hour round-trip hike, meanders along Along Creek and through dense forests, offering opportunities to observe diverse flora and fauna.

Trail Details

  • Trail Commencement: The path begins by tracing Along Creek, accompanied by the soothing sound of flowing water.

  • Trail Fork: After about an hour, a fork in the trail appears. Keep left to stay on course to Della Falls.

  • Steep Ascent: The trail includes steep switchbacks. Proceed cautiously through this challenging section.

Approaching the Falls

  • First Viewpoint: About three hours in, a viewpoint offers the first glimpse of Della Falls. Pause here for rest and enjoyment of the view.

  • Final Stretch: From this point, the trail descends steeply towards the base of the falls. This section can be slippery and rugged, requiring extra care.

At Della Falls

Upon reaching the base, hikers are greeted by the magnificent Della Falls, which cascade 440 meters (1443 feet) into the pool below. This breathtaking sight is an unrivalled reward for the trek, offering a unique experience to witness Canada's tallest waterfall and one of the tallest in the world.

Returning from the Hike

The return journey requires the same attention and care, especially on steep or slippery sections. After completing the hike, take time to rest and reflect on the natural magnificence of Della Falls.
